We love seeing more and more artists using the city and public spaces as sites for their practice, and we want to ensure that regulations and bureaucratic churn don’t get in the way.
We’re encouraged by inventive approaches to financing public art in the city. We also support flexibility in the design and programming of public spaces to encourage creative activity – from art installations to impromptu performance to fleeting events that come and go without warning.
Still, the ongoing loss of cultural spaces is an issue in Vancouver, making it challenging for artists and makers to continue their practices, and for them to contribute to a stronger public realm and to the complete communities that make our city so livable.
