The Vancouver Public Space Network is an all-volunteer organization. That means that all our activities – from coordinating events to planting gardens, from creating design competitions to writing our newsletter – are dependent on contributions of time and effort by urban enthusiasts like you.
If you’re interested in lending a hand, please get in touch. We have regular volunteer orientation sessions, as well as monthly Board and Project meetings (if you want to drop by and see what we’re all about). We’re working on a range of initiatives, big and small, and have volunteer jobs that can match a wide array of schedules. Whether you only have a few hours here and there, or have a bunch of time to commit to a long-term project, let us know.
Internships and school projects welcome.
Our volunteer orientation meetings typically take place on the second Monday of each month at locations around Vancouver. Contact our volunteer coordinator for the latest volunteer job opportunities or to attend an orientation – volunteer [at] vancouverpublic space <dot> ca
CAMPAIGN COORDINATORS
The VPSN has seven campaign-related working groups related to different aspects of public space. Coordinators help to take charge of a Working Group by organizing meetings, facilitating discussions, and helping our volunteers to take great public space-related ideas and translating them into action. Coordinators are “the glue” that keeps our volunteer-based working groups functioning and on-track. The ideal coordinator has great organizational skills, knows a thing or two about project management and work-planning, can act as a subject-matter expert… and is also prepared to make a volunteer contribution of 1 year minimum. This is a challenging volunteer role, but also a rewarding one.
DEVELOPMENT & FUNDRAISING COORDINATOR
Help us to create great public spaces! The VPSN is looking for one or more coordinators that can help us do some heavy lifting around organizational development and fundraising. The ideal candidate(s) will have experience with membership-based activities, organizing fundraising events and creating donor programs.
PUBLIC LIFE RESEARCHERS
The VPSN’s Public Realm research project is looking for help with a variety of projects that are designed to measure how people use public space. If you’ve got skills in: literature and policy review, observational studies, pedestrian and transportation counts, please let us know.
WRITERS
Do you like writing? Are you good at preparing concise, lively, and timely articles? Our VPSN blog is looking for a few talented scribes that can help with crafting short and medium size articles on public space issues, events, and more. Help us to spread the word about public space.
PHOTOGRAPHERS
Do you have skills with a camera in the urban environment? We are always looking for great photos to accompany blog posts, social media, and other publications, as well as VPSN events and activations.
