Doors Open Vancouver
October 3, 2015
10 AM – 5 PM
Doors Open Vancouver (DOV) invites you to enjoy free, behind-the-scenes access to popular City of Vancouver sites. Learn what it takes to run a city while experiencing Vancouver’s architecture, green design, and cultural heritage!
There are 18 sites open to the public during DOV on Saturday, October 3: most will be open from 10 am – 5 pm, with the exceptions of Carnegie Community Centre (10 am – 1 pm), Queen Elizabeth Theatre (10 am – 2 pm), Animal Services (10 am – 4 pm) and The Orpheum (1 pm – 5 pm).
City Hall will also be launching this year’s event by opening its doors a day early on Friday Oct 2, from noon to 5 pm.
Plan in advance to explore your favourite sites: with so many, it won’t be possible for you to see them all, but buildings are arranged in clusters so you can easily visit a few in each area. Please note again that some buildings are open for limited hours, and require advance registration (Carnegie Community Centre and the City of Vancouver Tactical Training Centre). Make sure to read the building descriptions for full information.
DOV is a quick start action identified by the Mayor’s Engaged City Task Force, and is brought to you by the City of Vancouver in partnership with the Architectural Institute of British Columbia, Cascadia Green Building Council,Tourism Vancouver, the Vancouver Heritage Foundation, and Vancouver Public Space Network.
The first DOV event took place in 2014. It was a one-day event with 20 participating buildings, nearly 200 volunteers and over 8,600 visits.
This event could not happen without our awesome DOV volunteers. Please thank them for their hard work!
