Public Talk: Making Space for the Unexpected Guests of Climate Change
The SFU Urban Studies Program, in partnership with the Faculty of Environment presents: Making Space for the Unexpected Guests of Climate Change
Speaker: Koko Warner, Institute for Environment and Human Security, United Nations University
This talk will examine how climate change is redefining our concepts of space, identity, and the pursuit of human development through the lens of cities—where over half of the world’s people live today. It will explore current findings about climate change and human migration and displacement, look at lessons learned from rural-urban migration, and explore directions for the future in policy and practice. What challenges and opportunities lie ahead? The talk will conclude with reflections on maintaining a safe operating space for humanity—in cities and landscapes interconnected with urban spaces.
This talk is FREE but please reserve a seat here.
The Making Space, Contesting the City Speaker Series is funded from an endowment by the Real Estate Foundation of British Columbia and the Fraser Valley Real Estate Board.
