Media Democracy Project
Media Democracy Day(s) (MDD) would like to invite Vancouver Public Space Network to our annual event. Our Program draws and fosters dialogue between activists, academics, media producers, and citizens, with the intention of creating a more democratic media system. This year MDD is focusing on the Federal Election, and includes speakers who have been active in the campaign sharing their experiences and answering questions about how the media has affected the election outcome and what narratives were used in mainstream and alternative media.
Our Keynote, Jesse Brown, is a renowned journalist who has worked on the CBC, Vice, and the Toronto Star. He now runs the crowdfunded podcast and news site CANADALAND where you can find some of the best investigative journalism, media critiques, and political satire in Canada. Panel discussions include Stop Spying on Us, Beyond Fear & Great Hair: Shaping Debate in #elxn42, and Changing the Channel: News Independent Media, and Campaign 2015.
Additionally, the Media Democracy Fair will be open all throughout the following day, allowing attendees to peruse through a variety of local media organizations in a trade-show style exhibition. Complete program details and further information on Media Democracy Day can be found at www.2015.mediademocracydays.ca/. The event is free and open to the public.
