Children and the Built Environment: Components for Optimal Growth – Valerie Fronzcek Memorial Lecture

October 28, 2015
8:30 AM – 4:30 PM

Robin Moore is an international authority on the design of children’s play and learning environments, user needs research, and participatory public open space design. Moore will give a one day workshop on creating and managing built environments that foster children’s play and learning. He will speak on theory and evidence-based practice of creating and managing built environments that support healthy child development, and provide case studies illustrating the challenges and successes of places, programs and policies that positively impact child development. There will be time for group work aimed at action planning. Lunch will be provided to maximize your time to network with peers and explore the Healthy City Exhibit from the New Westminster Healthier Community Partnership Committee.

This full day workshop will be of interest to a wide range of education, recreation, urban planning professionals, and policy makers interested in creating and animating spaces that stimulate children’s growth and development.
Moore holds degrees in architecture (London University) and urban planning (MIT), and for most of his career has worked in the field of landscape architecture as educator, researcher, and consultant. He is currently the Director of the Natural Learning Institute at NC State University, USA.
