Built City Series featuring Thomas Mueller and Dave Ramslie

Beyond basic building, this presentation questions how successfully new construction is providing better human health in the built environment.

MOV’s Built City speaker series – in partnership with Architecture Canada, Metro Vancouver Chapter – continues with Thomas Mueller, Founding Director of the Canada Green Building Council, and one of the most innovative policy makers in the Pacific Northwest, Dave Ramslie. Both speakers will address sustainable development and design in light of new world perspectives in scientific and technological advancements. Mueller and Ramslie advocate for design that promotes better lifestyles, air quality, energy, health and better nutrition for a better life.

Bios

Thomas Mueller became President & CEO of the Canada Green Building Council in 2005. In this role, Thomas leads Council sustainability efforts to transform the building and real estate industry in Canada. Prior to 2005 Thomas chaired the LEED BC Steering Committee, a partnership of local and provincial government agencies and utilities, which was responsible for the first adaptation of the LEED building rating system outside the U.S. He also chaired the Vancouver Chapter of the CaGBC from 2002-2005 and is a past Board member of the Cascadia Green Building Council. Thomas is a member of the Board of Directors of the World Green Building Council (WGBC) and the Green Building Certification Institute. Thomas is a frequent contributor to government and industry consultations, conferences and award programs on green buildings and sustainable communities.

Dave Ramslie is a Principal with the Integral Group LLC and head of Planning Research, & Sustainability. Dave is an urban planner by training, and his area of focus is on resilience and sustainable development. His work on policy, standards, and masterplans has won numerous international awards and last year he was recognized by the NRDC as one of 9 global leaders fighting climate change in cities. He has recently led the development of high performance building standards for the Province of BC, The City of Vancouver and City of Toronto that are all targeting net zero emissions strategies. Dave has also worked on energy policy issues with multiple US Cites and the US Department of Energy, and is a technical advisor to the Rockefeller Foundation’s 100 Resilient Cities Initiative.
