Vancouver Day 139+

With yesterday’s by-election now behind us, a related note about city history: it’s Vancouver Day 139+. The city was incorporated on this date (April 6) in 1886.

The “+” denotes the fact that the city we know as Vancouver is situated on territories that have been inhabited since “time out of mind” by the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations.
