Party on the SkyTrain

This month, the VPSN is celebrating its 10th birthday! For a decade, our network of volunteers have been championing the importance of public space with advocacy, education and outreach, to make Vancouver a better city to live in. Celebrate with us on May 28th in one of our favourite public spaces, Robson Square, where we’ll be showcasing a sampling of 10 projects that we’ve done over the last 10 years.

SkyTrain & Transit Parties

Topic: Transit as public space
When: Halloween Skytrain party annually 2005-2015; Pirate Party on the Seabus in 2008 and 2010.

What? What happens if you take hundreds of people in kooky and creepy costumes, invite them all on a SkyTrain (or SeaBus!) together, add a DJ and a 1000-watt sound system? One of the best all-ages parties in the city! And, a fun, unexpected sensory jolt to onlookers and plain old commuters. To celebrate public transit, we thought we’d make use of it in a fun, unexpected way. The VPSN held its 10th annual transit party in 2015, with the values of respect for all, fun for all, and humour at its core.

Did you know? At one of these parties in 2007, a bearded man in a white robe and golden halo crowdsurfed on Skytrain car # 777. For reals.
