Cedar Planting – Saturday, October 21, 2006

Looking to lay the groundwork for a future forest in East Vancouver? Want a chance to practice your guerrila gardening skills? How about helping with our 1000 Cedars in Cedar Cottage urban forestry initiative! Come on out this Saturday and lend a hand.

The VPSN was given sevaral boxes of native Red Cedar seedlings this summer… and we’ve been waiting for just the right time to plant them. We had one successful planting last week and are looking for volunteers to help with another. Come for a few minutes or a few hours.

When and Where: Meet at 11:00 am in the parking lot of the Trout Lake Community Centre (Victoria and 16th). From here we will walk to several orphaned spaces in the Cedar Cottage neighbourhood, planting as we go. If you are interested in joining but can’t make the start time – don’t worry! Contact us in advance and we’ll give you a sense of our itinerary.

What you’ll need to bring: Some gardening supplies are available, but bring a trowel or spade if you’ve got one. Count on carrying a bottle of water so that you and the trees can have a drink. Appropriate gardening clothes, gloves and other planterly attire are also helpful.
