The VPSN contest winner selection team convened earlier today. Their mission: pick the winners of our Living the New Economy contest.

A sizeable bundle of correct entries were put in a large blue mixing bowl, randomized and then selected. Up for grabs were four sets of tickets to the keynote event at next week’s Living the New Economy conference.

Congratulations to the following four individuals, each of whom win a pair of tickets:

Michael Alexander

Mike Dror

Jason McDougall

Lianne Carley

Our super tough, skill-testing question asked entrants to name the Vancouver director who will be sharing the stage with Portland placemaking expert Mark Lakeman during the keynote. The answer is Ian MacKenzie (of Occupy Love fame).

Of course, the Lakeman / Mackenzie keynote event is only a small part of the magic at the Living the New Economy event. If you haven’t already had a chance to peruse the Living the New Economy webpage, we’d encourage you to take a look. There’s lots of other cool activities taking place over the six days between October 15 and October 20 – all worth checking out. You can get tickets for individual events, day-long passes and more.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to enter the competition!

Interested in participating in a bit of awesome public space action next Tuesday, October 15?

The 2nd Annual Living the New Economy conference is taking place in Vancouver between Tuesday, October 15 and Sunday, October 20. It’s six jam-packed days of workshops, film, discussions and more… all on the subject of how we might build an economy as if people and the planet mattered.

Nested within the conference are events related to place-making, indigenous economics, community currencies, the ‘open-source’ commons, shared spaces and physical incubators (think ‘the Hive’ or Toronto’s Centre for Social Innovation).

The whole event is going to be awesome… but one speaker has got us particularly excited – Mark Lakeman from Portland City Repair. Lakeman will be giving an afternoon workshop and an evening keynote.

Thanks to the generosity of the Living the New Economy organizing team, we have four pairs of tickets to give away to the keynote event. For public spacers out there, this will be exciting news – Portland City Repair is one of the most dynamic place-making organizations operating in North America! Lakeman and his crew have been instrumental in designing vibrant public spaces and places across the US and beyond.

The keynote takes place next Tuesday, October 15 at 7:00pm at Granville Island (Performance Works).

For your chance to win tickets simply send an email to neweconomy@vancouverpublicspace.ca and tell us the name of the Vancouverite filmmaker who will be sharing the stage with Lakeman during the keynote. Be sure to include your name, phone number and email in the body of the message.

(Hint: this is the same filmmaker who will be screening a film at Living the New Economy on Wednesday, October 16).

(Double Hint: The answer to our super-tough skill testing question can be found on the Living the New Economy event page – http://vancouver.neweconomy.ca/)

Deadline for entries is Thursday, October 10 at 5:00pm (PST). We’ll be randomly drawing four names on Friday morning.
