Monthly Meet-up: Civic Buildings – Publicness – Why it matters?
Our next VPSN monthly meet-up focuses on Civic Buildings and their importance as public spaces.
In 2017 VPSN formed a civic buildings portfolio. The purpose – to give due attention to Vancouver’s indoor spaces performing important civic functions. These could be places where people gather to celebrate, learn or socialise, places for democracy, governance or debate, or other communal activity.
We’ll be joined by Vickie Morris, former senior planner for social infrastructure, with a career focused on community development, urban planning, and social well-being for the City of Vancouver. Vickie will be responding to the question: Publicness – Why it matters?
We also want to hear from you! In addition to sharing examples of the kind of projects the Civic Buildings portfolio undertakes, the meeting will include a workshop component. Please consider bringing a Vancouver (or local) example of a building (public and/or privately owned) that is important in your life – and be prepared to reflect on its attributes!
The event is FREE. To help us with our planning, please let us know if you’re joining us and Email firstname.lastname@example.org to reserve a space.
Location: Wo Soon (Mary) Lee Chan Room, VPL nə́c̓aʔmat ct Strathcona Branch (730 E Hastings Street)
