Downtown Ambassadors Private Security Program Seeks to Expand with Public Dollars

The Downtown Ambassadors program – run by Genesis Security on behalf of a number of BIA’s – is looking to expand with the aid of upwards of a a half-million dollars in public dollars. The VPSN is concerned about this move – both because of the lack of accountability that comes with privatized security when they patrol public space… and also because there was zero in the way of public consultation on the subject.

The motion is on the Council docket for Thursday, December 14, and the VPSN will be on the speakers list. We’ll post more details on our Surveillance & Security webpage in the next few days.
